1. Life’s activity in a clean body is termed Health and Life activity in unclean body is termed Disease. A weakling totters while carrying a small load for a short distance gets tired very fast. But a strong man coming from a long distance with a load of 20 Kgs on his head stands by and sees a wrestling match unmindful of the burden on his head, “To the strong, in body and a mind problems are but few” says Shri Ramakrishna Paramhansa. When the child is born, he is healthy, free from all diseases and as he grows, he starts suffering from one disease or the other, why? Many factors contribute to his sickness, e.g. the environment; the climate and the type of food he eats. The main cause for many diseases is wrong food, lack of exercise and disobedience of natural laws. The price of any disease in terms of distress to the sufferer and his loved ones can never be calculated. Today all of us have to be more careful than was required 20 years back, because no foodstuffs today are as pure as they should be. The life has become mechanized and fast, creating too much of tension and no physical labor whatsoever. How bad it looks when one enjoys the worldly comforts through the health round the clock but does not attempt to sacrifice an hour or to for it’s maintenance. It is for the purpose of attaining vibrant health, free from all diseases, independent of medicine, with pleasant and helpful attitude to one and all. Do attend to bodily needs and welfare and maintain it. Do not blame God for your bad health. God wants every one to be healthy but due to our own mistakes in wrong eating and living habits we get sick. When you are sick, reverse the process and health will return. Suicide will not help and neglect of body will be no good. Still, the reasonable middle way is best. You shall realize that physical attainments are the shape of uncommon muscular strength or skill in athletics will not help at all. The motto with reference to bodily strength may be said to be, “Enough is enough”, but definitely also, “Enough is Necessary”. Do some exercises, which involve all the organs of the body.
2. The human body is the temple of soul and should be kept clean and in good order. A sound, strong, healthy body alone can help one to achieve this sole aim. For a long time I was keen to exchange my views with the learned readers of EME Year Book. Covering this vast subject of health in few pages, is rather impossible but I shall cover only the matters related to nature cure, instead of going in to details of vitality, exertions, nourishments, Prana absorption through Pranayams, science of relaxation and other yogic methods of keeping the physical well being.
3. God created the healthy child. Wrong food and unhealthy surroundings forced to the child towards sickness. Sickness was misunderstood. Instead of viewing the sickness as signal of nature to adopt corrective measures and follow natural methods to revert back to health, sickness was suppressed by medication so as to reappear later in more severity. Any time you feel sick, do not just run to a doctor. Take account of your foods you have been taking prior to falling sick. Stop eating and aid the nature to throw out unwanted foul matter, which causes sickness in various forms though various organs of the body.
4. It is really a serious situation where man has become so civilized that he has understood the total universe and researched to reach various planets but has not cared sufficiently to understand his own health. Where his life has become totally mechanized without any physical exertion or voluntary exercises, his food has become richer. You can well compare it with a petrol engine, which instead of getting pure petrol gets impure oil to its carburetor. Thanks to existence of he vital force within the body which safeguards the health from all abuse caused by bad food.
5. Your health will depend on the type of food you consume. The best foods are the fruits and uncooked vegetables in raw form. Cooked food is man’s oldest fad. Accordingly to George J. Drews, M. D, of Chicago, 95 percent of all human diseases of body and mind can be related to cooked food. The result of cooked food eating had been calamities, wars, pestilence, famine and endless disturbances, which we were experiencing today.
6. We all are slaves to, those who cook food for us, whether she is one’s own wife or the cooks. Eating of cooked food in the childhood over a long period is habit forming. But in childhood one can afford to do mistakes in food and get away with it. Reasons are simple. He was better vitality no mental pressure and he does more physical exertion. On the contrary if you are over 35 years, vitality is reduced, mental pressure is more and physical exertion far too less. With such a difference, it will be criminal to do mistakes in selection of food. The second best foods are fruits and boiled vegetables without salt, condiments and oils and the worst is, the food, which is fried in plenty of oil with condiments. It will be hard for you to believe that the ideal food is tasteless food because you shall eat this food only if you are hungry whereas the worst food is the tasty food where you consume as much as you can, out of temptation without having real hunger. That it the reason that most of us fall sick with best types of foods since these are consumed even if the hunger doesn’t exist.
7. The poor takes most ordinary food and climbs the multistory buildings and carrying bricks, cement the whole day and is yet cheerful and healthy, where as with best and costliest food the so called modern man suffers from one or more diseases and never feels strong appetite since he doesn’t have the opportunity to exert in accordance with the type of food he consumes. Even if he is sick, he persuades the physician to advise him various foods more in quantity and quality ignoring all principles of nature. See an animal, as soon as he is sick, the first thing he does, is to stop taking food no matter he is served the best food till such time, he gets fully recovered from the diseases. More is the deviation from nature; less will be the degree of health. Hence make sure that as soon as you are sick, rest your stomach for few hours/days, start with fresh fruit/vegetable juice and then go to solid foods.
8. Orthodox practitioners are mainly concerned with identifying diseases and applying treatment, which suppresses the symptoms without eradicating the underlying cause of the sickness. But, as the creator of the nature cure, father Luise Kunhe maintained, it is absurd to treat an organ separately, as specialists often do. If an eye is diseased, there is something in the body itself, which is causing that disease. Best will be to know this root cause.
9. I am of the firm opinion that when human being register a hundred percent true health, they feel at peace with the whole world but as soon as any disease invades him, he becomes irritating and tool of faultfinding. He doesn’t remain a noble person. He converts himself although unknowingly as irritated hot tempered and unlikable personality. For health, not only means an inner happiness but consequently a feeling of contentment with one’s lot, and an absence of fantastic ambitions. I feel that there is no bigger prayer than to propagate the principles of health in masses.
10. Nature cure is not a cure, it only means natural living. Health at no cost basis, can only be achieved by the following few principles: –
(a) Early morning drink two or three glasses of warm water kept in a copper vessel, the previous night.
(b) Do some abdominal exercises and ensure the stomach is clean.
(c) Chew each morsel of food with a feeling that it is giving you energy and eat so slowly and peacefully without criticizing the food.
(d) Remain bare footed as and when possible.
(e) Try and eat only twice a day with only a glass of fruit juice/milk as third meal.
(f) Do some physical exercise every day, it may be morning walk, and yoga exercise or physical training but so involve all the organs.
(g) Sleep without a pillow and avoid foam cushions on bed/chairs.
(h) Must do Vajrasan after the food for 20 minutes.
(i) You can get rid of blood pressure and many other diseases by consuming 8 liters of water and by avoiding solid foods for 21 days.
(j) Rub your whole body with wet towel (cotton) for at least 20 minutes.
(k) For good health, never participate in criticism of others, always feel that each individual is good.
(l) Try and develop habit of sleeping in “BAL SUPTASAN” Learn it from a good yogi. You shall relax much more in this position and in a short duration.
(m) Try to loosen your shoulders each hour. The tension starts from shoulders and then upwards.
(n) In the morning, at least laugh loudly four to five minutes. It gives you tremendous amount of Oxygen supply and blood circulation.
(o) Each day help at least one individual without self-interest. This will give you inner strength and mental peace, which is extremely important for good health.
(p) Never consume white flour, sprout as many cereals as you can eat them raw but with a feeling that you are getting more energy by eating this way.
(q) Try to search company of good people, at the earliest and at any cost, who are intellectual, spiritual and knowledgeable.
(r) If you feel uncomfortable after taking the food, take five to six glasses of warm water and vomit it out. You shall immediately feel relaxed.
(s) Never force food on yourself or on others and avoid too tasty foods because you shall be tempted to eat little more. After having food to your requirement, if sweets like Rasa Malai, Gajar halva or any other tasty food are offered, one is bound to accept but at what cost, if extra tasty food is taken inside, the saliva which was meant only for digesting controlled quantity will run short for the extra dishes taken and surely one has to feel sick for many days or months. The sickness can be well avoided by taking restricted diet; less you eat more will be the space in side stomach to breathe easily and also for heart to beat freely.
(t) Never boil the tea leaves in water, rather add tealeaves in boiled water and such tea can be taken without milk or sugar. This will remove constipation and is anti cholesterol.
(u) Must take sufficient rest at night, if one sleeps late at night with heavy burden in mind due to one reason or the other, sleeping for many hours doesn’t relax the brain and one gets up tired.
(v) The greatest and deepest source of buying sickness is through vengeance, criticism and doing harm to others. A Urdu poet has quoted:
(i) Mat Sata Jalim kisi ko, mat kisi ki ah le, Dil ke hil jane se, Ars bhi hil jaye hai.
(ii) Neither hurt any one nor invite a curse, the moment heart is pained even sky will get shaken and he further said, “Hindu Kaho Ya Momin Banda Hun Mohabbat ka, Iman Ki puchho to Iman mohobbat hai” Whether you call me Hindu or a Muslim, I am a man of love and if you really ask me my religion, I will say “My Religion is Love”.
(iii) Most of the time we feel sick when we see others progressing, why? We hardly have attitude or capacity to make others comfortable; at least we should not feel uncomfortable by seeing others happy.
(w) Try to understand proper use of Ether, Air, Sun, Water and Earth when you are sick. However, healthy people should also know them to be healthier.
11. Indeed, we have become so much used to the modern medicines that the simple and universal truth of nature that all real healing comes from within is completely forgotten by us.
12. There is only one principle cause of disease i.e. faulty living. Normally we over do one thing and neglect another i.e. at dinner we enjoy a heavy tasty food followed by two/three servings of ice cream and instead of taking little more exercise, we sleep longer next morning and whole day we feel tired and lazy.
13. “All diseases are means towards some new joy of health,” says Sh. Aurobindo.
14. All disease is in some way body’s attempt to throw waste matter. The philosophy of Nature Cure, is to remove the root cause of all illness by regularly and natural living. The truth is that if body is given proper training and chance to function naturally, has within itself all the necessary curative powers to regain the health it has lost due to faulty living through ignorance or neglect.
